Self Qualification

How do I self qualify?

The selection committee will screen applicants to determine their participation in, and commitment to, the arts; they do not judge the content of an applicant’s artistic work.  Consider the following parameters to determine whether you self-qualify as an artist.

An artist, for the purpose of this committee, is a person who has a commitment to and/or participation in the arts and not simply as a casual pastime. This does not mean that the art the artist creates generates any or all of the artist’s entire source of income.

For the purposes of this definition, artist shall include, but not be limited to, the practice of any of the following:
  • Fine arts, such as painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, photography, writing.
  • Performing arts, such as music, dance, theater, performance, public art.
  • Industrial and decorative arts, such as ceramics, textiles, jewelry; (however, use of heavy equipment etc.. prohibited in units)
  • Culturally distinct practices such as beadwork, masks and instrument- making.
